Since 5 February 1924, the BBC has broadcast six tones(opens in new tab) at the top of every hour, echoed by radio stations around the world. The signal was born at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, an heir to the time balls once dropped from harbour masts so sailors could set their clocks.

This piece fuses the two, sound and sight, so that time is both heard and seen.
